How many clothes equals 60L?

How many clothes is 60L? I bought a 60L backpack. Soooo how many outfits translates to 60L? I don’t own anything liquid 😉

I picked it because I thought 40 was too small and 80 was too big. I also love that it has rollers because that’s actually what I plan to use most of the time. I’ve been paying a lot of attention lately to certain pieces of clothing I own that always fit well, don’t get stretched out, wash easily and can serve multiple purposes. I have this pair of Madewell jeans that I’m obsessed with because I can wear them on the plane, hiking, or out for a night and they always look and feel appropriate. I think they may be the pants from the Sisterhood of the Traveling pants..but I’m not sure.

My first leg is Australia, New Zealand, Bali, Thailand, & Japan. It will be mostly hot with the exception of Japan. I also plan to do a lot of surfing so that impacted what I bring.

The Essentials

  • 2 hats
  • 3 swimsuits (1 is reversible so technically 4)
  • 2 cover-ups
  • 1 rash guard
  • 4 long sleeve shirts (2 of which are sweaters)
  • 6 tank tops or sleeveless shirts (all easy to wash)
  • 1 rain coat
  • 5 cotton t-shirts
  • 2 jean shorts
  • 3 athletic bottoms (shorts, capri, & long)
  • 2 jeans
  • 3 shoes (this was a hard)
  • 60L Osprey bag (

The Extras

  • Toiletries
  • Laptop
  • Camera
  • Bag safe (in case hostel doesn’t have a big enough lock box)
  • Carry-on bag (this one has so many cool features) UPDATE: changed to one that was a little bigger so my DSLR camera and a change of clothes could fit. This one also has locking zippers and is still pretty stylish since it’s canvas. So far it has been perfect:
  • Sarong (so many uses)
  • Microfiber towel and wash cloth
  • Silk pillowcase
  • Mini curling iron
  • Adapter
  • Jewelry (classics and cheap that I can wear daily to feel normal)
  • Wet bag
  • Padlock
  • Handkerchief (same as sarong, so many uses)
  • Not shown: unmentionables and boring things like electric cords

    1. Erin, I started off with an eBag. It was a perfect because it had all these small pockets…however, I decided to bring my DSLR camera and wanted to stick some other things in there like a change of clothes. It was way too small for that. I ended up taking a Travelon which has been absolutely perfect! Enough space, secure, and actually kind of cute since it’s canvas.
